We’re committed to reducing leaks – but we need your help too so we can get them fixed as quickly as possible.

If the leak is in a pipe on your property, then YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR.  PWC is responsible for the water supply up to the boundary of the property. If you spot a leak, whether inside or outside your property, it is in your interest to discover and repair it quickly.

Often hidden from view – on a pipe behind a dry-wall, a water tank in the loft or an outside irrigation pipe they can be hard to spot.   Leaks are both wasteful and might be damaging your home, and given that your bill is based on a water meter reading, you’re literally pouring money down the drain. This is because your water meter cannot tell the difference between a leaky pipe and your everyday water usage – both will make the meter dial turn, and increase your bill.

If you think you might have a leak, take the following steps:-

  1. Turn off all taps and appliances which use water.
  2. Wait 30 minutes then take a meter reading
  3. Don’t use any water for a further 2 hours (longer if possible), and take another meter reading
  4. Compare both readings.  If you have not used any water and they have changed you probably have a leak.

 

Leaks inside your home or on your property

Leaks inside your home can cause damage and will increase your monthly bill. It is important that you find them quickly and contact an approved plumber as soon as possible.

Dripping TapYou should regularly check for leaks and signs include:

  • Damp patches in or outside the property
  • Lush vegetation where there is little irrigation could be a sign
  • Leaking toilets
  • A faucet dripping slowly – a faucet dripping one drop every 2 seconds could waste as much as 1000 gallons of water per year
  • Pool leak
  • Water Heaters:  A major cause of leak is a water heater.  If you notice an orange colour to your hot water this might be a sign or rust, and you may need to replace your water heater.
  • Irrigation Valves:  Check irrigation valves regularly for sign of wear and tear.

 

Leaks in the road

If you spot a leak in the road, or footpath, please let us know so we can fix it as quickly as possible.  We aim to investigate all leaks within two working days.

  • Where the leak is – full address, whether it’s in the road, footpath etc.
